MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Fourth-seeded University of Delaware women's tennis upset top-seeded and #73 LA Tech, 4-2, Friday afternoon to advance to the Conference USA Championship Match Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. The Fightin' Blue Hens move to 21-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs dip to 17-4.
This was the largest upset in the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship over a number one seed since 2010 when No. 4 Marshall defeated No. 1 SMU in the semifinals.
ON THE RECORD
"Today was us at our best," head coach Pablo Montana said. "Our doubles set the tone again, fearless and aggressive, and when our backs were against the wall at #2, down match points, we chose courage and heart. In singles, we competed with relentless belief, chasing every ball and fighting on all six courts. This group is peaking at the right time, but we know there's still unfinished business. We're grateful for the opportunity and ready to go earn a championship tomorrow."
