WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - University of Delaware rowing head coach Asiya Mahmud has been named head coach of the Women's 8+ for the 2026 U-23 World Rowing Championships and World University Championships this summer.
"Having the opportunity to coach within the U.S. system over the years has been incredibly meaningful," Mahmud said. "Each experience has helped shape how I approach developing athletes and build team culture. To continue that work at this level is an honor, and I'm proud to bring those lessons back to Delaware as we keep raising the standard."
Mahmud will also be a boat coach, sharing coaching duties with Sergio Espinoza and Gia Doonan, while all three will collaborate to oversee the full squad.
Mahmud began coaching within the USRowing system in 2021 and has since contributed to both the U-19 and U-23 national teams. She guided the U-19 women's four with coxswain to a gold medal finish in 2021 and the U-23 women's four with coxswain to a bronze and silver medal finish in 2022 and 2024. Mahmud also served as lead coach for the CanAmMex team in 2023.
Over two full seasons at Delaware, Mahmud has coached six all-conference selections and helped the squad to a third-place finish at the 2025 CAA Championships.
