NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball program has added the 2025-26 Gatorade Delaware Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Amalia Fruchtman, head coach Sarah Jenkins announced Wednesday.
The six-foot forward comes upstate to Newark out of Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Del. Fruchtman was a four-year starter in high school, helping the Vikings to two conference championships. Over her career, she averaged 21 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Fruchtman was a 1,000-point scorer in high school, closing out her career with 1,395. She also played lacrosse and volleyball at Cape Henlopen, being named a team captain of the latter as a junior and senior.
Highlighted by her senior season, where she earned state player of the year honors by Gatorade, Max Preps, and the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association, Fruchtman earned numerous accolades across her prep career. She was named first team all-state in her final two years and first team all-conference in all four seasons.
Off the court, she earned academic all-conference honors, was involved in the girl's golf club, and was a Morgan's Message ambassador.
Amalia is the daughter of Meghan and Jason Fruchtman and has four sisters: Amara, Aaliyah, Alexa, and Ariana. Her uncle, Benjamin Oakes, played golf for the Blue & Gold, graduating in 2001.
