NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware's Fred P. Rullo Stadium, which is home to the Fightin' Blue Hens' field hockey program, is undergoing a turf renovation, the Department of Athletics announced Friday. This is the first turf renovation at Rullo Stadium since 2017.
The new AstroTurf Poligras Platinum Turf System over 10mm Elayer over porous asphalt is currently being installed and is replacing the AstroTurf A12 turf system. The new field will feature a blue main field with a green border.
The AstroTurf Poligras Platinum Turf System is one of the most trusted and widely used field hockey surfaces in the world. Poligras surfaces have been installed at multiple Olympic Games, including recent Olympic competition surfaces, reinforcing its status as the global benchmark for elite field hockey performance. Poligras is engineered to meet and exceed FIH (International Hockey Federation) performance standards, ensuring the surface aligns with international competition requirements. It currently represents the highest tier of global field hockey surfaces used across the Olympic games, FIH Hockey World Cup, FIH Pro League, and numerous collegiate programs.
The Fightin' Blue Hens return to action this fall under second-year head coach Tara Zollinger. The winners of their 15th conference championship over the past 17 years, return four all-conference starters in Kate Fiest, Alexa Michielsen, Sarah Rigual, and Linde van Leeuwen. Rigual was named to the 2026 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team, where she competed in the Junior Pan American Cup and will compete in the 4 Nations Tournament in Lilleshall, England in June.
