Dr. C. Roy Rylander Inducted into MAC Hall of Fame

NEWTOWN, Pa. - Former University of Delaware Head Athletic Trainer and Men's Tennis Head Coach Dr. C. Roy "Doc" Rylander has been inducted into the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Hall of Fame, the conference announced Monday.

Rylander joined the University of Delaware faculty in 1946 and retired in 1988. A pioneer in the field of athletic training, "Doc" served the University of Delaware for 42 years as an athletic trainer and men's tennis coach.

His 41-year tenure as men's tennis coach, the longest for a head coach in UD history, was highlighted by a record of 343-176-1 and the 1974 Middle Atlantic Conference title. He was inducted into the Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Delaware Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006.

He tutored 23 student-athletes to All-MAC honors and coached the first NCAA qualifier in program history as Jeff Dumansky earned a trip to the NCAA Singles Tournament in 1974.

As head athletic trainer, Rylander treated thousands of Blue Hen student-athletes and was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 1986.
