NEWARK, Del. -Â The University of Delaware track & field team head coach Josh Hayman announces the hiring of Caitlin Jorgensen as the program's Assistant Coach, who is set to start on July 31.Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Caitlin to the Fightin Blue Hens," Hayman said. "Her passion, knowledge, and commitment to student-athlete success make her an outstanding addition to our staff. I have no doubt she will play a significant role in helping elevate our program as we continue building a championship culture at Delaware."
Jorgensen's last stop was at Team Prep USA, a seasonal high altitude running camp during the winter and summer break, for middle school and high school students, Crested Butte, Colorado. With Team Prep USA, she supervised and directed half of the camp as head counselor, organized and led daily activities and workouts, and managed photography and social media page.Â
Prior to Team Prep USA, she spent the 2024 fall semester as a volunteer graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Chicago. She paced workouts and races for the varsity program, and created social media content for the team's Instagram page. That year, Chicago earned a team second place finish at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and was named the UAA Cross Country Staff of the year
Jorgensen ran at the University of Chicago from 2019-2024. She currently owns the program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:45.75). She was an NCAA national qualifier in the indoor 3,000-meters and outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2023, and was the UAA Champion in the steeplechase in 2022.
"I'm very grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Hayman and the cross country and track & field team," Jorgensen said. "The kind and welcoming staff, rigorous academics, team culture, and sense of community in Newark make UD such a wonderful place to be, and I'm thrilled to join the flock. Go Hens!"
