Football Position Previews: Tight Ends

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team is preparing for the 2026 season which kicks off at home against Merrimack on Thursday, September 3 at 7 p.m. Throughout fall camp, positional previews will be posted online to spotlight the different units that make up the 2026 Fightin' Blue Hens.
TIGHT ENDS
Tight Ends Coach Tyler Ferguson leads the unit in his sixth season with the Blue Hens and first in charge of the tight ends.
"In our room, everybody's got talent," Ferguson said. "Somebody's a little bit better at blocking than receiving, somebody might be a little bit stronger in pass protection or catching in traffic, but we try to go out there and recruit guys who are good, well-rounded tight ends."
Fifth year Elijah Sessoms returns after starting every game last season at tight end. For his career, the Delaware native has appeared in 37 games for the Hens. This preseason, Sessoms has been named to the Athlon Sports All-CUSA Second Team, Phil Steele All-CUSA Third Team, and Pro Football Network All-CUSA Third Team.
Other returners include Jaxson Bowman, Scott Moore, and Jackson Whitacre. Moore appeared in 13 games last season, while Whitacre saw action in 12 contests.
Joining the unit this season is Coastal Carolina transfer Josh Humes (Hernando, Miss. / Hernando), freshman recruit Rowen Walsh (West Friendship, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel), and walk-on David Oravetz (East Greenwich, N.J. / Kingsway Regional).
