Women's Soccer Defeats VCU Behind Groh's Multi-Goal Game

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware women's soccer defeated VCU by a score of 3-1 on August 20 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Maggie Groh recorded the third multi-goal game of her career in the victory.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Willa Pratt scored her first goal of the season, and first since September 15, 2024, against George Mason after missing all of 2025 due to injury.
Groh scored her second and third goals of the year in the contest, becoming the first Fightin' Blue Hen to have multiple goals in the young season.
Sophia Hall stopped eight shots, tying a career high. This was Hall's third-straight game with seven-or-more saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Pratt got the scoring started for Delaware, dashing across the box to sneak a header by VCU's goalkeeper in the 33rd minute.
Olivia Bley fought off a defender to push the ball to a streaking Groh, who deposited the Hens second goal of the game.
In the 86th minute, Julia Hahn gracefully placed a throw-in in front of Groh's striking foot, landing her second goal of the contest and solidifying the win for UD.

GAME NOTES

This is the second-consecutive season that Kelly Lawrence and the Blue & Gold have started 2-0 at home.
