Football’s Moul Named to 2026 Chuck Bednarik Award Preseason Watchlist

PHILADELPHIA – University of Delaware football LB Gavin Moul has been named to the 2026 Chuck Bednarik Award Preseason Watchlist, the Maxwell Football Club announced Friday. Moul is the first player in program history to make the Bednarik Award Watchlist.
The Bednarik Award has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1994 and is named in honor of Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik who was an All-American player at the University of Pennsylvania and later a multiple year All Pro linebacker and center for the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame and was the last NFL player to be a full-time player on both offense and defense.
This preseason, the senior linebacker has been named to the Athlon Sports All-CUSA First Team and Phil Steele All-CUSA Second Team.
Moul, who was an All-CUSA honorable mention selection in 2025, earned all-conference honors for the second-straight season last year after starting all 13 games at linebacker for the Blue Hens. He recorded 111 tackles, becoming the 37th player in program history to record at least 100 tackles in a season for the Blue & Gold. He also had six games with over 10+ tackles. In addition to his open-field prowess that stopped the opposing attack, he also recorded 6.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, a touchdown, and three PBUs. The recovered fumble was returned for his first-career touchdown in the win over UTEP.
