Football’s Demboski Named to 2026 Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List

DALLAS – University of Delaware football OL Steven Demboski has been named to the 2026 Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced Tuesday. Demboski is the first in program history to make the Outland Watch List and the only player from Conference USA to be placed on the prestigious list.
The Outland Trophy, celebrating its 81st year since its founding, is the third-oldest major college football award. Created in 1946 when Dr. John Outland presented the FWAA with a financial contribution to initiate the award, the Outland Trophy has been given to the best interior lineman in college football ever since Dr. Outland, an All-American at the University of Pennsylvania in the late 1890s, eventually took up practice in Kansas City, Mo. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Outland believed linemen did not get the credit they deserved and wanted an award to recognize them.
This continues a busy preseason of awards for the fifth-year center, also being named to Athlon Sports 2025 Preseason Conference USA All-Conference First Team, Phil Steele's 2025 Preseason CUSA First Team, and Conference USA's Preseason Watch List.
Demboski, a 2025 Second Team All-CUSA selection, played and started in 11 games at center last season. According to PFF, he did not allow a sack all season in his first year as the full-time starter. He was named the CUSA Offensive Lineman of the Week after UConn after making his season debut in the 44-41 OT win after missing the first two games due to injury. Under his leadership, the Delaware rushing attack had its best game on the ground, accounting for five rushing touchdowns and 247 rushing yards for an average of 5.5 yards per attempt in the team's first-FBS home win.
