Three First Half Goals for Women's Soccer Lead to Win Over Drexel

PHILADELPHIA - With a three-goal first half, the University of Delaware women's soccer program picked up a road victory at Drexel by a score of 3-1 on Sunday.
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record improves to 4-1-3 overall.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- The Delaware offense out-shot the Dragons 19-9 on the day. Individually, Olivia Bley led the way with four shots.
- Sophia Hall and Leah Rhinehart split time in net. Hall started the game, played in 77 minutes and collected four saves. Rhinehart played the final 13 minutes.
- Maura Fisher, Calista Collins, and Julia Hahn played the full 90 minutes of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens opened the game with a quick goal in the seventh minute by Ava Ticconi. After the ball bounced around between multiple Blue Hens and Dragons players, the ball found its way to Ticconi. She struck the ball, and found the back left corner of the net just past the out-stretched arms of the Dragon's goalkeeper. It was her first-collegiate goal.
- Bley extended the lead with a goal in the 24th minute, The junior received the ball after an excellent pass from Adiat Olaogun-Dickson; then immediately kicked the ball past the diving goalkeeper to the middle right of the net. Olaogun-Dickson and Ticconi were credited with assists.
- The third goal of the half came from Bley just five minutes later. After a shot by Gabby Riley in the goalkeepers box was saved, the ball rolled to the forward, and tapped it into a wide open net.
GAME NOTES
- Delaware defeats Drexel for the first time since April 10, 2021. The win broke the streak of four-straight ties. Sunday's win is also the first under fourth year head coach Kelly Lawrence.
- UD's win on Sunday is the first time its defeated the Dragons in Philadelphia since 2010.
- Olivia Bley became the third Blue Hen this season, along with Maggie Groh and Cassandra Saldarini, who has multiple goals in a game.
