Cross Country Opens 2026 Season With Delaware Invitational

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware cross country program kicked off its 2026 campaign as it hosted its annual Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek on Friday.Â
The Fightin' Blue Hens finished second out of eight teams and scored 35 points.

The Blue Hens will travel south to Huntsville, Alabama for the Southern Showcase on Friday, September 18. UD finished 15th out of 53 teams in 2025. In addition, the 2026 Conference USA outdoor championships will also be held at Huntsville.

RESULTS
- Sophomore Beata Wrigstad led the way for UD. She finished fourth overall with a time of 18:37.90.Â
- Julia Flannagan and Annika Leineweber followed behind in fifth place at 18:50.60, and in sixth place at 18:52.80, respectively.Â
- Riley Fayer and Claire Dufrene followed out the top five finishers for UD. Fayer was eighth at 18:58.70 and Dufrene was 12th at 19:19.40.
- Other finishers for the Blue Hens include Erin McGoey (15th place, 19:40.00), Emerson Brinn (19:44.80), Ella Peterson (19:49.80), Kadence Dumas (19:51.10), Leah Clear (19:56.80), Delana Einreinhofer (20:08.70), Maddie Meder (20:09.20), Catherine Richards (20:23.70), Gabby Thiry (21:20.70) and Libby DeMichele (21:44.20).Â
