Strength & Conditioning

The UD Strength and Conditioning program is designed to enhance the performance and well-being of the student-athlete through the use of strength development, movement and mobility refinement, and anaerobic and aerobic conditioning. The UD student-athlete is provided access to strength and conditioning training facilities. The Associate Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning oversees the daily operations of the department. Strength & Conditioning staff members are assigned responsibilities for the training programs of specific sports under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of Strength and Conditioning.
Based on physical and physiological evaluations, a designated Strength & Conditioning staff member will work closely with each sport program’s Head Coach to design individual programs for each student-athlete. The student-athlete is encouraged to complete a full training program during each twelve-month cycle in accordance with NCAA rules.
Physical well-being is essential to success as both a student and athlete. Strength & Conditioning aids the student-athlete to achieve and maintain optimal physical condition by utilizing a comprehensive program to reduce the possibility of injury and/or re-injury. However, should an injury occur, Strength & Conditioning is committed to the student-athletes complete recovery and return to play. The student-athlete must receive clearance from the Compliance office before he or she may resume any athletic activities, including practice, strength training, conditioning and/or competition.
Strength & Conditioning provides the best strength training and conditioning programs available based on the demands of the student-athlete’s specific sport. Each such program addresses flexibility, strength, aerobic conditioning, anaerobic conditioning and body composition on an individual and/or team basis. Individual programs are administered under the direction of a certified Strength & Conditioning staff member. Strength & Conditioning shall administer periodic assessments of individual student-athletes and/or teams in order to establish training progress and efficiency.
