Billy Lovett joined the women's basketball staff as assistant coach in June 2026.
Lovett joins the Fightin' Blue Hens after most recently serving as an assistant women's basketball coach at Siena for two seasons. He also held the title of recruiting coordinator during the 2025-26 campaign.
Lovett was an integral part of Siena's success in 2024 as the team made it to the WNIT, the program's first national postseason berth since 2015. After achieving double-digit victories in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, Lovett helped the Saints secure the #3 seed in the MAAC Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Lovett joined the Saints after spending over 20 years coaching high school basketball. A three-time high school state championship head coach, Lovett made the jump to college after leading Morris Catholic to consecutive No. 8 national finishes and New Jersey titles each of the past two seasons. A three-time high school state championship head coach, he led his high school programs to a collective 283-76 (.788) record and three state championships (2007, 2023, 2024).
Lovett spent six seasons building Morris Catholic High School in Denville, New Jersey into a perennial national power. He concluded his highly-decorated career guiding the Crusaders to back-to-back NJSIAA Non-Public B Championships and a final ranking of No. 8 nationally according to MaxPreps. The Crusaders were ranked the No. 1 team in New Jersey by NJ.com after posting a 29-1 record in 2023-24, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Long Island Lutheran (NY), the top-ranked team nationally this past season according to ESPN.com's SCNext Top-25 Girls Basketball Power Rankings. Morris Catholic excelled equally off the court, where the team achieved a 3.87 GPA. Overall, Lovett led Morris Catholic to 129 wins and wrapped up his tenure with three consecutive Morris County Championships and a 37-game win streak against New Jersey opponents. He led the Crusaders to a 79-5 overall record spanning his final three seasons.
Lovett previously served as a boys basketball head coach in the high school ranks, leading East Orange Campus (2013-16) in New Jersey, and Weston (2006-07) and St. Luke's School (2004-06), both located in Connecticut. He was a two-time Essex County Coach of the Year (2014-15) at East Orange Campus, led Weston to a 2007 state championship, and piloted St. Luke's School to a New England Prep School Championship in 2006.
Lovett also possesses an extensive AAU pedigree, having previously served as the head coach for both the New England Playaz U17 (2004-05, 2007-13) in Massachusetts and New York Gauchos U16 (2006) squads. He also led the Randolph Travel Basketball program from 2016-18.
A 1999 graduate of Fordham with his bachelor's degree in Marketing & Communication, Lovett starred for the Rams from 1994-99. A 1995 Patriot League All-Rookie Team selection, he served as a team captain for the 1996-97 campaign and led Fordham in assists for three straight seasons (1994-97). Following his collegiate playing career, Lovett played professionally for five seasons in Germany, Mexico, Spain, and Greece from 1999-2004.
A native of East Orange, New Jersey, Lovett starred for legendary Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony High School. Lovett earned MVP honors after leading St. Anthony to a State Championship, and was a Street & Smith Magazine Honorable Mention All-American.
Lovett and his wife, Rasheedah, are the proud parents of four children.
