The University of Delaware rowing program has hired Danielle Swan as an assistant coach, Head Rowing Coach Asiya Mahmud announced Monday. She assumes the role beginning Monday, August 25, 2025.
"I am excited to see what Dani brings to the staff from her experience as a coach and in the coxswain's seat," Mahmud said. "I think that her perspective as a conference champion and a competitor in the NCAA Championships is in line with where we want to be in our inaugural year in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), which will be incredibly beneficial for our athletes."
Swan will join the staff in Newark after Delaware tied their highest finish in team history, placing third overall at the 2025 CAA Championships as the squad broke its program record with four all-conference honorees.
"I'm thrilled to be joining Delaware rowing and contributing to a program with such a strong and supportive culture," Swan said. "After coaching at Boston College and completing the Institute for Rowing Leadership at Community Rowing, Inc., I'm excited to bring my experience to this next chapter. Having competed as a coxswain for the University of Rhode Island, I understand the power of team identity and shared purpose, and I feel incredibly lucky to help bring Asiya's vision for this team to life."
She most recently served as an assistant coach for Boston College women's rowing, where she primarily oversaw the Second and Third Varsity 8+.
Before joining the Division I staff at BC, Swan was the top assistant for the Eagles' men's club rowing team. She worked with the Second Varsity 8+, while also assisting in the development of the coxswains by implementing race plans and post-race evaluations.
In addition to her collegiate experience, Swan is also an assistant coach with Community Rowing Inc., a club based in Boston, Mass. In that role, she aids the U19 girls Third and Fourth Varsity Eights and works with over 40 rowers in a general capacity in a variety of lineups.
As a student-athlete at the University of Rhode Island, Swan competed at the 2022 NCAA Rowing Championships as the coxswain of the Second Varsity 8+. In her final three seasons, she coxed the Second Varsity 8+ and the Varsity 4+.
