Brian Toron closed out his third season on the University of Delaware volleyball staff in 2016.
After serving as the program's director of operations, he was promoted to interim head coach when head coach Bonnie Kenny and associate head coach Cindy Gregory were relieved of their duties on Oct. 16, 2016.
Under Toron's guidance, the Blue Hens turned their season around in 2016 as he led Delaware to a 10-5 mark down the stretch after taking over as head coach. The Blue Hens advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and downed Northeastern and Charleston before falling to James Madison in the title game.
Toron, a native of Fair Lawn, N.J., graduated from UD in May, 2015 with a degree in political science, and served as a volunteer assistant coach with the program during the 2014 season. Toron helped create and implement practice plans, provided technical feedback for Blue Hen setters during training sessions, and assisted with coding sequences during matches. He has also served as a male practice player during Delaware practices.
As director of operations, he assisted the staff with team travel, recruiting visits, worked with the UD compliance, business, and equipment rooms, and assisted in scheduling of practices and competition.
Toron has also participated in college volleyball camps at Delaware, North Carolina, Texas and Villanova over the past two years, and previously was a two-year assistant coach with the boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams at Fair Lawn High School.
Toron played club volleyball for four years at UD, after playing three years at Fair Lawn High School from 2009-11. He served as the team's setter at Fair Lawn, leading the state in assists during his senior campaign.
He was named All-State, as well as first team All-North Jersey, County and League in 2011, when he led the squad to a 37-2 record and the state title.
