Football (1976-80)
Wrestling (1976-78)
A two-sport standout, Gregg was a three-year standout for the Delaware football team and also a conference champion for the Blue Hen wrestling squad.
A native of Lock Haven, Pa., he earned five letters during his two-sport career, was a member of teams that posted an impressive combined record of 49-14, and competed in NCAA Tournament action in both sports.
Gregg was an instant success in wrestling, competing at the 190 lb. class and posting a perfect 25-0 regular season record for UD Hall of Fame head coach Paul Billy. He advanced to the East Coast Conference championship final as a freshman in 1977 and captured the ECC championship title in 1978 when he was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
His conference title earned him a berth in the NCAA Championships at the University of Maryland. He finished his career with an overall record of 42-5, setting a school record with 14 pins in 1978 and ranking No. 2 all-time with 24 career pins.
Playing defensive end in football for UD Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond, Gregg led the team to a three-year record of 31-7 and helped the Blue Hens capture the NCAA Division II national title in 1979 and finish as national runner-up in 1978. He was a three-year starter and recorded 47 tackles and six quarterback sacks in 1980 when he earned a spot in the All-East team.
He earned his degree in agriculture from Delaware in 1981, a master’s degree from Maryland in 1984, and his doctorate in reproductive physiology from West Virginia in 1987.
