MARY E. CARR
Women’s Swimming (1980-84)
A key member of the outstanding Blue Hen women’s swimming and diving teams in the early 1980’s, Mary was a four-year standout who specialized in the butterly and individual medley events during her career.
A native of Boothwyn, Pa., she held five school records at one point in her career, owning standards in the 50 and 100 butterfly, the 100 individual medley, and two relay events. She earned All-American honors in four events at the 1981 Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) Championships and was a member of the Blue Hens’ national championship 200 freestyle relay team that same year.
In addition, she also captured five East Coast Conference titles, winning the 100 and 200 individual medley, 50 butterfly, and 200 freestyle relay in 1983 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1984.
Mary also was a member of two Eastern Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (EAIAW) regional championship teams and two East Coast Conference runner-up squads for UD Hall of Fame head coach Edgar Johnson. She earned her degree in nursing from Delaware in 1985 and her master’s degree from George Mason in 2002.
