A four-year standout in both field hockey and lacrosse for the Blue Hens, Meharg was an All-American in both sports during her career at Delaware and one of the top female student-athletes in UD history.
A 1985 Delaware graduate and 1985 UD Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year honoree, Meharg earned All-American honors in field hockey in 1983 and in lacrosse in 1985. She also served as a team captain for both squads.
In field hockey, she was East Coast Conference Player of the Year in both 1983 and 1984 for UD Hall of Fame head coach Mary Ann Hitchens and earned . She is only the
She led the squad to a four-year mark of 49-25-5, including a 15-2 mark in league play, and the team won two conference regular season titles and one tournament title. The Hens advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1982 and posted a third place national finish. She is one of only three players in Delaware history to earn conference player of the year honors twice.
In lacrosse, she was a four-year standout on attack and helped lead the Blue Hens to national titles in 1982 and 1983, a third place national finish in 1984, and two ECC titles under Hall of Fame head coach Janet Smith. She was a two-time All-ECC selection and helped lead the Hens a combined record of 56-15-1, including a mark of 11-1 in ECC regular season play.
She still ranks among the top all-time leading goal scorers in UD history in both sports.
Following her collegiate career, Meharg played seven years on the U.S. National Field Hockey Team and has served as head coach of the University of Maryland field hockey program since 1988. She has won over 300 games and led the Terps to seven NCAA national titles.
