Delaware Women's Indoor Track Performers Star at Lehigh, Maryland Invitational Meets

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's indoor track & field teams posted a pair of top 10 team finishes and recorded nine top five individual finishes while competing at the Lehigh Mountain Hawk Invitational and at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Delaware posted a fourth place team finish at Maryland at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex backed by winning performances by freshmen Nicole Daly in the 5,000 meters (18:31.95) and Miranda Reinson in the pole vault (10-11 3/4).
At Lehigh's Rauch Field House, Delaware placed ninth overall in the team standings led by a third place finish by Alana Pantale (at right) in the shot put.
At Maryland, Delaware earned 63.5 points to finish fourth behind team champion Maryland, Hampton, and UMBC in the 19-team field.
In addition to Daly and Reinson, Delaware athletes posted five other top five finishes at Maryland as Sophie Kauffman was second in the 5,000 meters (19:01.37), Haley Gorenflo was second in the pole vault (10-11 3/4), the distance medley relay team of Melissa Mazzo, Meredith Steenkamer, Hannah Pepper, and Katrina Steenkamer was second in 12:43.93, Amira Idris was fourth in the triple jump (38-11), and Alexis Gligor was fifth in the pole vault (9-6 1/4).
Delaware athletes also set two school records as Latoya James finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles, tying her own school record in 8.85 seconds, and Rachel Wasserman posted a 13th place showing in the 600 meters with a time of 1:42.15, besting the previous mark of 1:43.41 by Carly Simmons in 2011.
At the Lehigh Invitational, Lehigh captured the team title in the eight-team field. Wagner was second followed by East Stroudsburg, Lafayette, Bloomsburg, Kutztown, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Delaware, and Montclair State in the top 10.
Pantale was third in the shot put (40-0 1/2) and 13th in the weight throw (42-7 1/2) while Courtney Sniscak was fifth in the weight throw (47-6 1/4), Aretah Ettarh was seventh in the shot put (36-7) and 12th in the weight throw (42-8), and Alyson Leppla was 10th in the shot put (34-11 1/4) and 17th in the weight throw (39-8 3/4).
Delaware will return to action Jan. 28 when the Blue Hens host the annual Thomson Invitational at the Delaware Field House.
