Caruso Wins Twice, Wasserman, Relay Team Win Gold as Delaware Women's Track Captures Delaware Invitational Title

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware junior Vicky Caruso (at right) captured two first place finishes and the Blue Hens won two other events to highlight action at the Delaware Indoor Track & Field Invitational Friday night at the Delaware Field House.
The Delaware women, competing for the first time in over a month and appearing at home for the first time this season, posted 28 top five individual finishes and won the Division I team title with 199 team points, edging runner-up Navy. Coppin State was third followed by Villanova, Delaware State, and Saint Joseph's in the six-team field.
Ursinus won the women's Division II/III team title, Delaware State won the Division I men's crown, and the Merchant Marine Academy was the winner in the men's Division II/III competition.
Caruso, who competed at the NCAA outdoor regionals a year ago when she also captured the Colonial Athletic Association 400 meter title, ran her career count to 24 indoor individual and relay first place finishes as she won the 60 meter dash in a career-best time of 7.71 and captured the 200 meters with a time of 24.55.
The Hens captured two other events on the night as Rachel Wasserman won the 800 meters in 2:29.46 and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alexandra Carroll, Alexandra Gervais, Toresha Foster, and Kelley Donovan took first place with a time of 4:04.03.
Donovan added a second place finish in the 400 meters (1:01.11) and a fifth place showing in the 200 meters (27:09), Carroll also contributed a second place finish in the 500 meters (1:19.36), Amira Idris was second in the 200 meters (26.09) and third in the triple jump (37-4), and Paige Morris posted second place finishes in both the long jump (18-0 1/4) and triple jump (37-5 3/4). Morris' leap in the triple jump was the second longest in school history.
Delaware will return to action Jan. 13 when the team competes at the New York City Gotham Cup at the New York City Armory.
