Quartet Lead Blue Hens With Winning Records at Hampton Roads Tournament

Juniors Adam Lawton and Troy Beneck (at right) each finished the men's Flight A Singles with 3-0 records. In Flight B, freshman Mike Furr compiled a 3-1 record while sophomore Evan Andrews went 2-1.
Lawton sailed through all of his opponents with wins over CNU's Chiraag Shetty (6-0, 6-1), Loyola's Connor Pietrak (6-0, 6-1) and Drexel's Skyler Davis (8-4).
Beneck also took three matches as he defeated Danilo Galovic from Chowan (6-1, 6-1), Tyler Pultro from Drexel (6-1, 6-3) and Dadr Ouabdelmoument (9-8), also from Drexel.
The pair also finished the weekend undefeated in doubles play with a 3-0 record. The duo defeated CNU and two Drexel squads to take the Flight 1 title.
Furr kicked off his collegiate career as he opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Loyola's Greg Olesnycky in Flight B. He followed with a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 victory over Drexel's Dan Hansen and then swept Drexel's Paul Stauskas, 8-0.
Also in Flight B, Andrews took two wins over Steven Kolumban (Shepherd) and Drexel's Alex Fioravante before falling to the eventual champion.
Freshman Alex Sweet also picked up a victory in Flight B with a 6-4, 6-2 with against Chowan's Ivan Doubograev.
On the doubles side, Furr and Sweet finished 2-1 with wins against Virginia State and Chowan.
Andrews teamed up with junior Nolan Gelman in doubles action to pick up an 8-5 win over Howard.
Delaware next heads north to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Lehigh Tournament next weekend.
