Six Delaware Swimmers Compete at Day 2 of Winter Nationals (Nov. 30, 2012)

AUSTIN, Tex. – The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming teams had six members compete in the second day of the 2012 AT&T U.S. Swimming Winter National Championships Friday at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
In Friday's preliminary action, freshman Alexander Tooley began the day with 65th-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.19. Senior Ryan Roberts (at right) was 43rd in the 200 freestyle (1:40.77) and 49th in the 100 backstroke (50:83). Sophomore Tim Ware finished 54th in the 100 backstroke (51.30) while senior Matt McCarthy was 57th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.47. Junior Cole Clark was 46th in the 100 butterfly preliminaries (50.02). Senior Courtney Raw (bottom left) completed the day with a 55th-place finish in the women's 100 backstroke (57.18).
The meet includes the nation's top swimmers in short-course competition with the opportunity to achieve Olympic Trial qualifying standards. The three-day meet runs through Saturday.
Friday morning session included competition in the men's and women's 4x50 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. The finals of these events will be completed in an evening session.
Delaware will continue action on Saturday, December 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The preliminaries of the men's and women's 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 1650 freestyle will be in the morning as the finals will conclude in the evening session.
