Delaware Student-Athletes Win Six Events, Set Two School Records at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. -- University of Delaware student-athletes recorded several impressive performances Saturday at the Princeton Invitational as the Blue Hens captured six events and set three school records in the process.

LaToya James and Nijah Dupiche each won two events and the duo was joined in the win column by Paige Morris and Kelsey Evancho (at right).

James continued her impressive month as she won the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 3-inches and captured the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.55. James set the hurdles record for the third time this month, breaking her own mark twice, and has already qualified for the ECAC regionals at the end of the season.

Dupiche also won the two events as she captured the 200 meters (25.69) and 400 meters (25.69), Morris won the triple jump with a personal bests distance 38-7, and Evancho was the winner in the high jump with a leap of 5-7. The performance qualified her for the ECAC meet and broke the UD freshman record of 5-5 1/4 held by Dawn Sullivan in 1989.

The Blue Hens posted 27 other top 10 finishes on the day with runner-up performances being posted by Lindsay Prettyman in the mile (5:04.41), Alexandra Gervais in the 800 meters (2:19.66), and by the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Prettyman, Breanna Nicholson, Toresha Foster, and Alex Carroll (3:57.37).

Nicholson also placed third in the 400 meters (58.89), Carroll was third in the 500 meters (1:18.93), Meredith Steenkamer was third in the 1,000 meters (3:57.37), Courtney Sniscak was fourth in the weight throw (49-9 1/4), Jennifer Holly was fifth in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), and Mellissa Mazzo was fifth in the 1,000 meters (3:14.54).

Other multiple top 10 performances were registered by Toresha Foster (sixth in the 200 meters; ninth in the high jump) and McKensie Walker (sixth in the 500 meters; eighth in the 4 x 400m relay), Aretah Ettarh (seventh in the weight throw; ninth in the shot put), Tyonna Brooks (seventh in the 500 meters; eighth in the 4 x 400m relay), Sydney Shepherd (eighth in the 4 x 400m relay; ninth in the 500 meters), Katrina Steenkamer (sixth in the mile; 10th in the 4 x 400m relay); Emily Gispert (eighth in the mile; ninth in the 4 x 400m relay), and Rachel Wasserman (eighth in the 800m; 10th in the 4 x 400m relay).
