NEW YORK -- The University of Delaware women's indoor track & field squad enjoyed a record-setting afternoon during the second day of the New Balance Invitational Saturday at the New York City Armory.
Two Blue Hen records fell as freshman Amira Idris (at right) captured the triple jump title with a Delaware record leap of 40-feet, 6 3/4-inches and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Emily Gispert, Lindsay Prettyman, Alex Gervais, and Alexandra Carroll placed 10th with a new UD record time of 9:13.72.
Idris broke her own school record that she set earlier this season when surpassed the old Delaware triple jump record of 37-feet, 9 3/40-inches set by Lissy Dean during the 2004 season. The 4 x 800 meter relay team surpassed the previous school record of 9:15.09 set by Gispert, Prettyman, Jessica Olsen, and Rachel Wasserman last season.
In addition to the two records, the Hens also qualified for the ECAC Championships in March in three events. Idris and the 4 x 800 meter relay team each qualified for the meet as did the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Breanna Nicholson, Nijah Dupiche, Kelly Donovan, and Toresha Foster with a time of 3:52.34, which placed them 16th overall.
