Blue Hens Fall Victim to Hot-Hitting UNCW, Drop Opener of CAA Weekend Series 22-3

NEWARK, Del. -- The University Delaware baseball squad ran into the red-hot bats of UNCW, suffering a 22-3 setback in the opening game of the team's Colonial Athletic Association three-game weekend series Friday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The two teams will play the second game of the series Saturday at 1 p.m. and finish up Sunday at 1 p.m.
Blue Hens designated hitter Jimmy Yezzo (at right) led Delaware's offense with three hits and a pair of runs batted in. Third baseman Ryan Hartley also collected one RBI while right fielder Cameron Travelini added two hits. Delaware fell to 7-10 (2-2 CAA) with the loss.
The Seahawks (8-9, 4-0) offense struck mightily as UNCW scored in each of the first eight innings of the game, including a combined 12 runs scored during the third and fourth innings. The Seahawks banged out 23 hits on the afternoon, including 12 for extra bases.
UNCW third baseman Matt Campbell set the table for the Seahawks. The third baseman and leadoff hitter went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Catcher Drew Farber tallied three hits and four RBI while center fielder Andrew Cain ratcheted two hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
In his first collegiate at bat, Luke Dunlap smashed a two-run home run over the left-field wall that capped a five-home run day for UNCW.
Delaware starter Eric Young (3-1) suffered his first defeat of the season for the Blue Hens as the senior right-hander yielded eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and one walk in two innings of action.
Blue Hen relievers Ian Hoff and Eric Sawyer combined for two scoreless innings in which they allowed just one hit and one walk while recording three strikeouts.
Trey McSwain (3-2) earned the victory for the Seahawks as the right-hander kept the Blue Hens offense on its toes. Over six innings, the senior surrendered two earned runs on eight hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
The trio of Ryan Mayhew, Christian MacDonald, and Justin Livengood each tossed an inning of relief as they collectively allowed one earned run on two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
