Four Blue Hens Earn All-East Honors as Delaware Closes Out Indoor Track & Field Season at ECAC Championships

BOSTON -- The University of Delaware women's indoor track & field squad got All-East performances from Vicky Caruso (at right), Latoya James, Toresha Foster, and Amira Idris to highlight the final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Those four performances helped the Blue Hens collect 16 points and tie for 20th place in the team standings. The 20th place finish was the best by the Blue Hens since a 16th place team showing in 2009.
Caruso, a junior who has already established herself as one of the top sprinters in Delaware history, placed second in the 200 meters as she crossed the finish line in a school record time of 24.00, breaking her own school standard.
Lenora Guion-Firmin of Maryland-Eastern Shore won the event with a time of 23.85. Caruso has now earned All-East honors five times during her indoor career. She placed seventh in the 200 meters at the 2010 ECAC meet and fourth in the same event at last year's meet.
A trio of Blue Hen freshmen also enjoyed outstanding All-East performances during the weekend.
James capped an outstanding indoor season by placing fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 to earn All-East honors. James, who broke the school record in the event three times this season, ran to a time of 8.58 in the preliminaries and 8.60 in the semifinals to advance to the finals.
Idris earned All-East honors with a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 1 1/4-inches while Foster was eighth in the 400 meters with a clocking of 56.25 in the finals to earn All-East laurels. She advanced to the finals with a time of 56.14 in the preliminaries.
Also for Delaware, the distance medley relay team of Lindsay Prettyman, Alex Carroll, Emily Gispert, and Katrina Steenkamer was 11th (11:58.25), the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Prettyman, Gispert, Alexandra Gervais, and Carroll placed 12th (9:14.45), Paige Morris was 19th in the long jump, and Nijah Dupiche was 20th in the 400 meters (57.38).
Also, Prettyman was 23rd in the 800 meters, breaking her own school record with a time of 2:14.02, Jennifer Holly was 24th in the pole vault (no height), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Breanna Nicholson, Foster, Dupiche, and Kelly Donovan placed 26th after not finishing due to a fall, and Kelsey Evancho was 27th in the high jump (5-4 1/2).
