Season Comes to an End for University of Delaware Men's Tennis as Blue Hens Fall 4-0 to Top-Seeded VCU in CAA Quarterfinals

NORFOLK, Va. – The 2011-12 season came to an end for the University of Delaware men's tennis team as the Blue Hens dropped a 4-0 decision to top-seeded VCU in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
The match up took place in the quarterfinals of the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association Tournament held at Old Dominion University's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
Delaware finished the season with a record of 8-9 in dual meet action.
VCU (20-4 overall) opened the match with wins at the top two doubles positions. The Rams' No. 2 duo of Filip Svensson and Max Wennakoski won 8-3 over Andre Vorobyov and Ryan Kent, while the No. 1 tandem of Alexis Heugas and Antoine Baroz put up an 8-5 victory against Delawre's Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton.
In singles action, VCU posted three straight-set wins over the Blue Hens. In the first match to finish, Baroz defeated Vorobyov at No. 3 by a 6-1, 6-3 score. Next was the match at No. 6, which resulted in a 6-1, 6-2 loss for Jason Derene to Camil Salomon of VCU.
The top flight was the last singles match to finish as Beneck, a third team All-CAA selection, gave it his all but could not overcome Alexis Heugas, this year's CAA Player of the Year, dropping a 6-1, 6-4 decision.
VCU will take on fourth-seeded Old Dominion in the CAA semifinals on Saturday in a 10 a.m. match.
