RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware baseball team was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association Monday as Blue Hens right-handed pitcher Chad Kuhl was named CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.
Kuhl, a sophomore from Bear, Del. (Middletown HS), led the Blue Hens to a 3-1 victory over George Mason Sunday that completed UD's three-game sweep of the Patriots. In his start, Kuhl struck out eight and walked two while he held Mason to one earned run on seven hits in eight innings on the mound.
Delaware posted its second CAA road series sweep of the season after also downing James Madison in three games back in March.
Kuhl has appeared in 11 games this season - all starts - and posted a record of 3-4 with a 4.77 earned-run average. He ranks second on the team with 60 innings pitched and has a team-high 56 strikeouts.
In addition to Kuhl, the CAA honored VCU junior right-hander Blake Hauser as Co-Pitcher of the Week, Hofstra junior outfielder Taylor Stuart as Player of the Week, and UNCW freshman right-handed pitcher Jordan Ramsey as Rookie of the Week. Hauser went 1-0 with two saves, Stuart hit .727 (8-11) with four doubles, one home run and eight runs scored and Ramsey earned a win in his Sunday start against Towson, where he allowed one earned run in 7.2 innings.
Kuhl becomes the fourth Blue Hen honored this spring by the CAA as senior pitcher Eric Young was named CAA Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 5, freshman outfielder Tyler Powell was selected as CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 28, and sophomore infielder Jimmy Yezzo was tabbed CAA Player of the Week on Apr. 16.
This week, Kuhl and the third place Blue Hens (24-20, 14-10 CAA) will travel to Atlanta for a three-game, CAA weekend series with the Georgia State Panthers. The series will begin on Friday, May 11, at 6 p.m. at the Georgia State Baseball Complex.
