Former Hen Ross Buckwalter Qualifies for US Olympic Trials (June 15, 2012)

NEWARK, Del. -- Former University of Delaware swimming standout Ross Buckwalter has qualified for the upcoming United States Olympic Trials in the 100 meter breaststroke.
Buckwalter (top right), a 2011 mechanical engineering graduate of Delaware, swam the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.49 in a qualifying meet at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center in late May to beat the qualifying standard of 1:04.69.
Buckwalter and former UD teammate Mike Wodoslawsky (bottom left) will both be competing at the Olympic Trials to be held June 25-July 2 at Omaha, Neb. The U.S. Olympic Team will be selected from this meet. Wodoslawsky qualified in the 100 breaststroke last spring.
Both Buckwalter and Wodoslawsky served as student assistant coaches for the Blue Hen men's and women's teams this past season for head coach John Hayman.
A native of Creamery, Pa. (Perkiomen Valley High School), Buckwalter was a four-year letterwinner at UD and holds school records in the 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay, as well as owning the third best time in the 200 breaststroke.
He was a two-time collegeswimming.com honorable mention Mid-Major All-American in 2010 and 2011, was an NCAA “B” qualifier twice in the 100 breaststroke, captured the 200 medley relay title at the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association championships, and finished third in the 100 breaststroke at the CAA meet twice.
Wodoslawsky, a native of Damascus, Md. (Damascus HS) and a 2011 electrical engineering graduate of Delaware, holds the school record in the 200 medley relay and ranks No. 2 in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke events.
Also a four-year letterwinner, he was a collegeswimming.com honorable mention Mid-Major All-American in 2011, was a 2011 NCAA “B” qualifier in the 100 breaststroke, captured the CAA title in the 200 medley relay in 2010, and was the CAA runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in 2011.
