HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The University of Delaware field hockey team secured a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Friday as freshman Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands) led the Blue Hens to a 6-0 victory over Hofstra.

Peet collected the first hat trick of her career as she finished the day with three goals. She also added an assist to finish the day with seven points, the most by a Delaware player since the 2009 season.

Jacki Coveleski (Lewes, Del.). Junior Kelsey McKee (Gap, Pa.) added an assist in UD's win.

Senior Sarah Scher (Pocomoke City, Md.) collected six saves in the win while the Pride's Kaitlyn De Turo tallied nine saves with six goals allowed.

With the win, Delaware remains the only team unbeaten in CAA action as the Hens move to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in league play. Hofstra falls to 5-12 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.

     · The last time a Delaware freshman posted a hat trick was Oct. 6, 1998 when Juli Byrd collected three goals against Penn.
     · Esmée Peet's hat trick is just the fourth in Delaware history (since 1985) for a freshman.
     · The last time a Blue Hen tallied at least seven points in a game came during the 2009 season when Casey Howard posted 12 against Brown (Sept. 6) and seven against Towson (Oct. 23).
     · Delaware posted six goals for the first time since the 2011 season opener when the Blue Hens defeated Bryant, 7-1.
     · Friday's game marked the third shutout of the season for the Hens.
     · The last time Delaware started CAA play 4-0 was 2009, when UD opened 4-0 en route to the CAA title.
     · The last time Delaware won more than four games in CAA play came in 2004 when UD finished 5-2 and won the league crown.
     · Delaware has now reached the 11-win mark for the 23^rd time in the past 43 seasons.
     · Dating to last season, senior goalie Sarah Scher has started 20 straight games for Delaware. She has played all 1053:05 minutes for the Blue Hens this season and has collected 68 saves with 24 goals allowed. Scher is 13^th in Delaware history with 155 career saves.
     · Delaware is now 22-6 all-time over Hofstra.
