Men Set 800 Freestyle Relay Record at Day 1 of CAA Meet (Feb. 27, 2013)

FAIRFAX Va. – The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the first day of the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday at George Mason University's McKay Natatorium.
After the first day of competition, William & Mary leads the men competition with 74 points followed by UNCW (70) and George Mason (64).
Delaware, with 60 points is in fourth place, as Drexel (52) and Towson (50) round out the field.
The Blue Hen women are in a tie for third place with UNCW with 67 points. James Madison leads with 127 points as Towson (110), Northeastern (65), George Mason (57) and Drexel (50) complete the field.
The Delaware men finished the day with a third place finish in the 200 meter relay as the team of Ryan Roberts (at right), Tyler Szarko, Cole Clark and Paul Gallagher finished with a time of 1:29.20.
The 800 freestyle relay team of Roberts, Sihan Liu, Matthew Marquez and Gallagher posted a time of 6:37.95 for a fifth place finish, breaking the school record of 6:40.27 set by John Ohlhaver, Robert MacLeish, Zach Schiavo, and Dominic Pavlik in 2008-09.
The Blue Hen women placed fifth in the 200 medley relay as Courtney Raw, Domonique Montoya, MaryKay Harris and Whyte posted a time of 1:43.13.
In the 800 freestyle relay the Blue Hens team of Montoya, Laura Askin, Shea Solt and Lesley Payonk produced a time of 7:34.30, just .03 off the school record.
In the women's 3-meter diving, Kristina Congdon was ninth with a score of 249.60 while Caitlin Stockwell was 12th (226.20) and Lize Keefer was 14th (202.80).
The Blue Hens will return to the water Thursday for day two of the championship. Scheduled events in the pool include the men's and women's 50, 200, and 500 freestyle events.
On the boards will be the men's one-meter diving.
