NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football, men's soccer, men's basketball and women's lacrosse teams participated in the University's annual Blue Hen Helpers Program this past Saturday, Aug. 24.
The Blue Hen Helpers program is organized through the University's office of Residence Life.
The Blue Hen Helpers program volunteers help new students move their luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms on new student check-in day. This activity assists students and their parents in their transition to the University, is the first step in extending a warm welcome to them, and begins to build the strong and positive community that enhances every student's living and learning experience. Residence Life has been offering this service campus-wide to incoming first year students since 1994.
"This is our seventh straight year that we have been helping the freshmen and their families move in to their dorms on our great campus. Moving in to the dorms can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking occasion for the new families and we feel, as a program and an athletic department, it is important to reach out and embrace the new students with a simple gesture of sharing the load to help get them settled in. Parents in particular are genuinely appreciative and hopefully the students can reciprocate by supporting us at our home games."
Ian Hennessy“We were really thrilled as a team and as an athletic department to help with the Blue Hen Helpers program. Our guys along with the rest of the athletes did a great job. They worked hard and really seemed to have fun with it. We had a great time meeting the incoming students and their families. It's always nice to give back to the students who support us all year long.”
