Delaware Drops Road Contest to William & Mary 3-1, Vaccaro Scores Second Goal of Season

Williamsburg, Va. – The University of Delaware's women's soccer team could not recover from two first half goals from William & Mary as the Blue Hens fell to the Tribe 3-1 Friday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup.
Delaware, who had come into Friday's matchup with an unbeaten CAA record, managed just seven shots against the Tribe's stout defense.
The Blue Hens (6-6-1, 2-1-1 CAA) received their lone goal from Rachel Vaccaro off an assist from Natalie Zelenky just minutes into the second half. The score cut William & Mary's lead to 2-1, but that was as close as Delaware would get.
Scott GrzendaThe Tribe got on the scoreboard just 1:15 into the game on a goal from Anna Madden. William & Mary (10-2-1, 4-1 CAA) then added to their total when Madden registered her second goal of the game and fourth score of the season to give the Tribe a commanding 2-0 lead.
After Vaccaro pulled UD within one goal early in the second half, William and Mary's Emory Camper extended the lead to 3-1 with her sixth goal of the season to seal the Tribe's victory.
The Tribe outshot Delaware 21-7 Friday. The 14 shot deficit was the biggest shot discrepancy for UD this season. Vaccaro and Alison Slark led the Hens with two shots each in the losing effort.
The Blue Hens will look to get back on the winning track Sunday as Delaware wraps up its weekend road trip with a game at Elon. The matchup between the Blue Hens and Phoenix will begin at 1 p.m.
