NEWARK, Del. -- Come out and support a great cause, save a life, and help the University of Delaware win another conference championship next Wednesday, Nov. 12, when UD hosts the 13th annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge at the Trabant Student Center on campus.
University of Delaware athletics is urging all members of the community to come out and participate and help the Blue Hens save lives and capture another conference championship.
The event will begin at 7 a.m. and will run until 9 p.m. at the Trabant Student Center on campus. Participants can pre-register or walk-up the day of the event.
“The CAA Blood Challenge has developed into one of the conference's most-anticipated service projects and it's a great source of pride for our member institutions,” CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said. “The event grows each year and we continue to be impressed by the enthusiasm and participation on each of our campuses. We look forward to more success with this life-saving project.”
During its 12-year run, the CAA Blood Challenge has raised 39,622 units of blood and helped save over 100,000 lives.
The CAA Blood Challenge was developed by the conference presidents as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. Each institution promotes the event on campus and encourages student groups, faculty, staff, and alumni to participate and support their school.
The University of Delaware won the CAA Blood Challenge in 2013 for the third year in a row and seventh time overall with 1,173 actual donors, which resulted in 1,248 productive units of blood collected. Five of the nine CAA institutions had more than 200 donors register for the program. Drexel University finished second with 380 donors and Hofstra University placed third with 370 donors.
