Penn midfielder Kaitlyn Moore scored on a header from a cross-field pass from Erin Mikolai to put the Quakers up 1-0 at the 39:07 mark. That goal would prove to be enough for the Quakers, but UD did not back off.
The Hens (4-5) provided themselves with numerous scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to convert them into the tying goal.
Rachel Vaccaro and Mikala Kin led the team with two shots in the game, while Emily Market and Natalie Zelenky each tallied one shot.
Scott GrzendaSunday's game was a tale of two halves for UD. Penn outshot the Blue Hens 5-0 in the first half, but the Blue Hens came out strong in the second half and outshot the Quakers 6-1 in the final 45 minutes.
Mikolai led the Quakers with two shots, while four other Penn players registered one shot on the day.
Sunday's game was the final non-conference game of the season for UD. Colonial Athletic Association contests begin next weekend.
“The first nine games really is about us finding ourselves,” said Grzenda. “Next week is when everything really starts to matter. We have outplayed most of the teams we have played against this season, but it all comes down to finishing.”
Delaware will open CAA play Friday against UNCW. The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
