RECREATION FACILITIES
CARPENTER SPORTS BUILDING
The main recreation facility on campus is the Carpenter Sports Building, more commonly referred to as the “Lil Bob.” The 167,000 square-foot building was named in honor of R.R.M. Carpenter Sr., a former member of the Board of Trustees and long-time benefactor and supporter of the University. The facility first opened in 1942 and was recently renovated and updated in 2013 with the construction of a three floor strength and cardio center and lobby. The facility received the prestigious NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facility Award in 2014.
This facility offers 3 foors of strength and cardio equipment, indoor pool, running track, rockwall, gymnasiums, workout studios, racquetball courts, outdoor turf fields, locker rooms, academic classrooms and more. All recreation spaces can be viewed below.
MEMBERSHIPS
UD students and staff receive access to all recreation facilties on campus. Memberships to the main recreation facility, Carpenter Sports Building (Lil Bob), are also available to alumni, student/staff spouses, visiting scholars and spouses, department card holders, conferences and Osher College Lifelong Learning Institute members for a fee. STUDENT ACCESS DURING WINTER AND SUMMER SEMESTERS
Students recieve access by paying the recreation portion of the student comprehensive fee. If students are not enrolled in classes during the winter or summer semesters but still wish to access the facility at those times, they must purchase access. More information.
FACILITY RESERVATIONS
University departments and RSO groups can reserve recreation spaces in the Lil Bob and other locations on campus. Non-university groups can also be approved to reserve recreation space by providing a University Facility Use Agreement, a Certificate of Liability Insurance naming UD as additionally insured ($5m per occurence general liability coverage), and payment for the rental fee.
