Blue Hens Host Fairfield Sunday in First-Ever Meeting Between Programs

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware field hockey team returns to Fred P. Rullo Stadium this Sunday as the Blue Hens host Fairfield in a non-conference showdown before Colonial Athletic Association play begins.
The Hens will welcome Special Olympics Delaware athletes and their families for the 1 p.m. matchup. SODE athletes will join the team on the field for starting lineups and the National Anthem before rooting on their favorite UD athletes.
ADMISSION
Admission is free and open to the public for all home Delaware field hockey games held at Fred P. Rullo Stadium.

Fans unable to make it to the game in person can watch online, for free, via Hens All-Access on www.BlueHens.com. Kyle Coulter (play-by-play) and Clare O'Malley (color) will have the call. Full rebroadcasts of the game will be available on Delaware's YouTube page (UDBlueHens) within 24 hours of completion of the contest.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware is coming off of a weekend where it went 1-1 with a 3-0 win over Villanova before falling to No. 19 Old Dominion, 2-1, in overtime.
· Emmeline Oltmans was named the CAA and ECAC Rookie of the Week after registering five saves versus Villanova for the first shutout of her career. The goalie also collected six saves at ODU. Oltmans has started all nine games in the cage for UD and has picked up 38 saves (.613) with 24 goals allowed (2.68).
· The Blue Hens are 1-1 in overtime contests this season.
· UD is 86-73 (.541) all-time at Rullo Stadium.
· Delaware has seven defensive saves through nine games played, the most since 2010 when the Hens posted seven in 18 games.
· Eight Blue Hens have scored at least one goal this season while 10 have tallied at least one point.
· Junior Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Patzner has 68 career points (27g, 14a), which is good to tie for 16th in Delaware history with Debbie White (1977-80) and Laura Domnick (1985-88).
· Head coach Jackie Kane (Fairfield '86) is in her 23rd year with the Fairfield field hockey team. Kane has played in or coached in more than 140 victories at Fairfield and is the winningest coach in program history.
ABOUT FAIRFIELD
The Stags are coming off of a 4-3 overtime loss at the hands of Monmouth Friday and are now 0-4 in overtime contests. Fairfield is 4-6 on the season and, like the Blue Hens, has defeated Villanova. The two teams share another common opponent in California, in which UD picked up a 3-2 overtime win while the Stags lost, 2-1, also in overtime. Ann Burgoyne (8g, 0a) and Felicitas Heinen (5g, 5a) lead Fairfield with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Caitlin Bennett and Emma Ball have split time in the cage, but Ball leads the way with 40 saves and 13 goals allowed. Marta Laginja was named the America East Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-winner against Siena on Sept. 20 to seal a 2-0 weekend for the Stags.
