University of Delaware Volleyball Falls To Santa Clara, Sweeps Host Crimson at Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team fell to Santa Clara in three sets Saturday morning but rebounded with an impressive straight set victory over the host Crimson as the Blue Hens wrapped up play at the Harvard Invitational.
The Broncos, who improved to 6-1 on the season, won the the Blue Hens' opening match of the day by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20. However Delaware, which is now 4-3 on the season, responded by defeating Harvard 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
UD junior Katie Hillman paced the Blue Hens against Santa Clara with nine kills while not committing an attack error as she hit .600 for the match. Autumn Jenkins added eight kills during the contest, while Daria Robinson contributed a season-high seven kills.
Erin Layne led Delaware with 17 assists and Julia Anderson chipped in 11, while Taylor Hollingsworth posted a team-high 15 digs.
Taylor Milton led Santa Clara with 16 kills, while Sabrina Clayton contributed 11 during the contest.
Hillman again led the way during the win over Harvard, recording a match-high 12 kills to hit .455 on the night. Alexa Swann chipped in with eight kills and a .500 attack percentage, while Layne handed out 22 assists and Anderson added 16.
Caroline Holte posted nine kills for Harvard, which dropped to 2-1 on the season.
Hillman and Chandler Bryant, who had six kills and a team-high five blocks against the Crimson, were named to the Harvard Invitational All-Tournament Team.
“I am very proud of how hard we played and competed during all three of our matches,” Delaware head coach Bonnie Kenny said. “Our effort was outstanding. Congratulations to Katie (Hillman) and Chandler (Bryant) on their All-Tournament Team selections. Overall I'm very happy with our play all weekend!”
