Delaware Indoor Track Places Eighth at Maryland; James Captures 60m Hurdles

LANDOVER, Md. -- Senior LaToya James captured her 11th career indoor individual title and the University of Delaware women's indoor track and field team posted an eighth place team finish at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland Saturday at the Prince George's Sports Complex.
James won the 60 meter hurdles with a first place time of 8.65 and was one of 11 UD student-athletes to post top 10 finishes. Earlier this year James won the 60 meter hurdles at the Navy Invitational.
Host Maryland captured the team title with 97.5 points followed by Richmond, UMBC, Hampton, and Temple in the top five. Delaware collected 23 points to place eighth among the 15 teams competing.
Sophomore Tyler Jackson posted a second place finish for the Blue Hens with a time of 25.95 in the 200 meters to highlight the track events.
Delaware was impressive in the field events as the Blue Hens collected 10 top 10 finishes in the throwing and jumping events. Leading the way was Monica Hagenauer's fourth place finish in the weight throw (15.15 meters). Also for the Hens, Nicole Filion was fourth in the pole vault (3.30 meters), Sarah Hillman was fifth in the shot put (12.78m), Jade Francis was sixth in the weight throw (14.77m), Kelsey Evancho was sixth in the high jump (1.63m), Alexis Gligor was sixth in the pole vault (3.15m), Jennifer Hineman was seventh in the pole vault (3.00m), Amira Idris was eighth in the long jump (5.35m) and Spencer Nendza was eighth with a leap of 10.53m in the triple jump.
The Blue Hens will continue action next Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Tiger Open at Princeton.
