LAST TIME OUT ⚽️
No. 20 Maryland threatened late, but Delaware notched a goal in the 89th minute to upset the Terps, 2-1, Tuesday evening at Ludwig Field. In a series that dates to 1938, the win marks the first time in men's soccer program history that the Blue Hens have defeated the Terps. With the victory, Delaware improves to 7-6-2 on the year while Maryland, the reigning Big Ten Champion and 2013 NCAA Runner-up, drops to 6-4-4 overall. The two teams held a 0-0 tie through the first 56 minutes of the contest before Ben Sampson collected his fourth career goal, and first of the season, with a header off a corner kick. Thomas de Villardi picked up his fifth assist of the year on the goal. The Terps looked to force the game into overtime as Mael Corboz connected with Emmanuel Korvah on a corner kick in the 88th minute. De Villardi, the current CAA Player of the Week, refused to let UD leave the pitch without a notch in the win column and nailed the game-winning goal from just outside the box in the 89th minute to give the Hens the 2-1 advantage. Todd Morton registered four saves to improve to 5-2-1 on the year.
