NEWARK, Del. – The No. 15 Blue Hens closed out regular season non-conference action on a beautiful fall afternoon at Fred P. Rullo Stadium with a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Old Dominion on Senior Day.
Jacki Coveleski, Janell Holmes, Allie Mikelson, Maddie O'Beirne and Michaela Patzner.Mikelson (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) led off the afternoon with a tip-in goal from junior Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands/RSG Slingerbos) in the second minute of action. The goal was the first of the year for Mikelson.
Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany/Karolinen Gymnasium) added the second and final tally of the day off a penalty stroke in the 23rd minute.
The Monarch (8-8) threatened late as Megan Byas connected on a penalty corner in the 68th minute to bring their deficit to just one with the score at 2-1.
Sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) collected five saves in the win.
Kealsie Robles picked up three saves with 67:50 minutes in the cage for ODU.

“We played our own game today. It was a game of two halves, the first for Delaware and the second for Old Dominion. We were fortunate to finish the game the way we did. They had a strong second half and we simply didn't.”
[On the senior class]: It was a quality win and the nice thing is it's senior day and everybody played just a little bit harder for those five. Those five have done an amazing job. They were my first class when I came to Delaware. They believed in the mission we had set forward and for them to have done what they have for the last four years is outstanding. I'm very proud of each and every one of them.”
Senior Allie Mikelson
“We continued to play our Delaware defensive game, so we were able to keep them out of it at the end. Offensively, we need to do a better job of continuing to play the way we know how to play. We need to build the attack and finish the game in the attacking 25, not the defensive.”
[On senior day]: “The team did a wonderful job of setting up the locker room with decorations and balloons. Everything's been great, I think each of us has cried at least once when we read our letters. They did an awesome job and I just want to remind them all that even though today they played for us, we can't do it without them.”
Senior Michaela Patzner
“We just wanted to have a great game today. I feel like the team played awesome for us, but we also played for them.”
[On senior day]: “It really doesn't feel like I'm a senior. When you come in freshman year, you don't know anyone, but we've all gotten so close over the last four years.”
