NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams are excited to continue their support of the B+ Foundation and UDance this weekend when the Blue Hens
host a Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet at Rawstrom Natatorium.
As part of the meet this Saturday and Sunday, Delaware team members will honor their B+ Hero, Ella
(at left), and provide information about the B+ Foundation and UDance.
The B+ Foundation honors the life of Andrew McDonough, who passed away at the age of 14 in 2007 after battling leukemia, septic shock, and complications of childhood cancer. Andrew's B+ blood type became his family's and friends' motto throughout his fight against childhood cancer — to “Be Positive”.
The B+ Foundation is about Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer — raising money through dance marathons, 5Ks, T-shirt sales and more, to provide financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer nationwide. The B+ Foundation also funds critical, cutting-edge childhood cancer research.
UDance, hosted at the University of Delaware each spring, is a 12-hour philanthropic dance marathon that unifies the campus community and raises awareness about the B+ Foundation and pediatric cancer. The university's largest student-run philanthropy, the event raised a record $1.2 million in 2015.
UDance will have information tables in the lobby during the meet that will be manned by UDance executive board members. They will be handing out flyers, talking to guests, answering questions, and taking down emails of people who are interested in receiving more info.
In addition, all team members, parents, and fans are urged to wear something yellow to show support for the B+ Foundation.
The meet will get underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day until 7 p.m.. Sunday's competition will also begin at 10 a.m. and run through 1 p.m.
