NEWARK, Del. -- The unbeaten University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams will face their toughest tests so far this season this weekend when the Blue Hens host a Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet at Rawstrom Natatorium at the Carpenter Sports Building.
The meet, which will include men's and women's teams from Delaware, UNCW, and William & Mary, as well as the women's team from James Madison, will get underway on
Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. The event is free both days.
Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m. with competition in the 200 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley, 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle, and 400 medley relay. The men's one-meter and women's three-meter diving events will begin at 12 noon. Swimming action will resume at 4 p.m. with the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke. Women's one-meter and men's three-meter diving events will begin at 6 p.m. to close out the day.
Sunday's action will get underway at 10 a.m. and will feature the 500 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay competitions.
The Delaware men (2-0) have opened with wins over Georgetown and George Mason while the UD women (3-0) have defeated Georgetown, St. Francis (Pa.), and George Mason.
The Blue Hens got several big individual efforts in the sweep over George Mason last Saturday and four Delaware student-athletes earned CAA Athlete of the Week honors led by swimmers Morgan Whyte and Alex Hillsley and divers Kristina Congdon and Luke Winkler. All four were multiple winners vs. George Mason.
Both William & Mary teams enter with 2-0 records while both UNCW teams are 2-0. The James Madison women are also 2-0 on the season.
Fans are urged to wear yellow to the meet to show support for the B+ Foundation, which raises funds for pediatric cancer and supports families who have been affected by the disease.
UDance, hosted at the University of Delaware each spring, is a 12-hour philanthropic dance marathon that unifies the campus community and raises awareness about the B+ Foundation and pediatric cancer. The university's largest student-run philanthropy, the event raised a record $1.2 million in 2015.
UDance will have information tables in the lobby during the meet that will be manned by UDance executive board members. They will be handing out flyers, talking to guests, answering questions, and taking down emails of people who are interested in receiving more info.
