NEWARK, Del. -- Delaware's backcourt trio of sophomores Anthony Mosley and Kory Holden, and junior Cazmon Hayes combined for 44 points and 12 assists as the Blue Hens led wire-to-wire for a 70-47 non-league men's basketball victory over Bradley Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Hayes scored 17 points for the second straight game, Mosley scored a career-high 15 points in just his third career start, and Holden (below left) contributed 12 points and a game-high seven assists to pace the short-handed Blue Hens (3-2), who played their first game since losing standout guard Chivarsky Corbett to a season-ending knee injury Sunday at Temple.
Mosley knocked down 7 of 10 shots from the field and also dished out four assists while Hayes (below right) knocked down three three-pointers and also pulled seven rebounds.
Sophomore forward Skye Johnson gave the Hens a big lift off the bench with seven points and a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Marvin King-Davis also contributed 11 points and six rebounds as part of a balanced effort.
“I thought the response of our guys to some adversity was phenomenal tonight," said Delaware head coach Monté Ross. "There was no sense of feeling sorry for themselves, and they played the way we expect them to. Anthony Mosley certainly took advantage of his opportunity to the highest level. I thought our guys were really locked in defensively. We wanted them to shoot contested shots, and we did that tonight.”
Delaware took a 31-19 first-half lead and never looked back. Bradley never got closer than 13 points the entire second half as the Hens posted their highest win margin since an 83-60 victory over Penn back on Dec. 21, 2013.
The Blue Hens, who are also without the services of swingman Devonne Pinkard, who is expected to be out 3-6 weeks with a foot injury, played a seven-man rotation for most of the game.
Bradley (1-7), which lost its seventh straight game, shot just 28 percent from the field and just 6 of 28 from beyond the three-point arc (21.4 percent) in dropping the decision.
Forward Donte Thomas was the only Braves player in double figures with 10 points. Bradley was also hurt by 14 turnovers.
Delaware led by as many as 25 points in the second half, going up 53-28 on a Holden three-pointer with 10:03 left
