USS AT&T Nationals - Day 1

Delaware?s Camp, Tooley, Whyte Compete at First Day of US Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Three University of Delaware swimmers opened action at the 2015 US Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships Wednesday morning at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center with Morgan Whyte, Alex Tooley, and Cory Camp all competing.
The meet is one of the fastest in the world each year with the top collegiate and post-collegiate swimmers, numerous Olympic hopefuls, and world record-holders competing in the three-day event. Among the swimmers competing on Thursday was Olympic legend Michael Phelps.
Whyte, the defending Colonial Athletic Association 50 and 100 freestyle champion from Chevy Chase, Md. (St. John's College HS), had the Blue Hens' best finish of the day as she placed 61st overall out of 88 competitors in the women's 50 freestyle with a time of 26.66. She finished third in her heat behind winner Paulina Bond of the University of Western Ontario (26.64). The overall winner was Stanford's Simone Manuel, who swam to a time of 24.83.
Tooley, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo. (Fossil Ridge HS), competed in the men's 200 individual medley and finished with a time of 2:10.11 to place fifth in his heat and 64th overall out of 77 competitors. Michael Weiss of the University of Wisconsin won the event with a clocking of 1:58.97.
Camp, a junior from Olney, Md. (James Hubert Blake HS), was Delaware's third competitor of the day. He finished 72nd overall in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:12.36. Conor Dwyer, a former All-American at Florida and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the 4 x 200 freestyle relay, won the event, touching the wall first in 3:50.46. Camp is the defending CAA champion in the 500 freestyle.
Four Delaware swimmers will be competing on Friday as Camp and Tooley each compete in the 400 individual medley at 9:32 a.m. (PST), Annie Nunes competes in the 100 breaststroke at 11:32 a.m., and Alyssa Sanders takes part in the 100 backstroke at 12:07 p.m.
On Saturday, Camp and Tooley will compete in the 1,500 freestyle at 5 p.m. and Whyte will compete in the 100 freestyle at 9:50 a.m.
