FAIRFAX, Va. – Delaware junior Hannah Jardine (St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada/O'Donel) posted a career night with 31 points, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Hens fell, 90-83, at George Mason in double overtime at EagleBank Arena Monday evening.
Jardine went 5-of-12 from behind the arc, including draining a 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime at 66-66. The forward added seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in a career-high 48 minutes played.
Both the Blue Hens (4-3) and Patriots (4-6) scored just six points in the first overtime, but Mason cruised to an 18-11 advantage in the second overtime off of eight free throws for the win.
Classmate Erika Brown (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) posted 20 points in the loss while Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) registered 12 points and eight rebounds.
Five Patriots recorded double-figure scoring nights and were guided by Taylor Brown's 28 points, 11 of which came from the charity stripe. Tiffany Padgett and Chinyere Brown logged 12 rebounds apiece for Mason.
“We got crushed on the boards tonight. We lost a lot of possessions because we weren't tough enough rebounding the ball. It's a frustrating loss, but George Mason is a very good team, I don't care what their record is. Whenever you step on someone else's court, you have to be ready to battle and we just couldn't sustain it on the boards. That was the difference tonight.”
