Delaware Gets Back on Winning Track, Blue Hens Top Canisius 5-1

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The University of Delaware baseball team recorded its second win of the season as the Blue Hens beat Canisius 5-1 Saturday at the Lexington County Tournament.
The Hens, who dropped games to George Mason and NJIT Friday to start the tournament, tallied a season-high five runs against the Griffins, while freshman pitcher Ron Marinaccio earned the win in his first collegiate start.
Jim ShermanMarinaccio pitched 6.2 innings, registered two strikeouts, and did not allow an earned run. Milley and Alicknavitch combined to pitch the final 2.1 innings and allowed just one hit.
The Delaware bats were held in check for the first five innings before the Blue Hens put up three runs in the sixth. UD (2-3) trailed 1-0 heading into the inning, but Doug Trimble gave the Hens the lead with a two-run double. Senior Zach Lopes then scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The Blue Hens tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth inning on a pair of RBI hits from Diaz Nardo and Tyler Powell.
Canisius (5-5) scored its lone run of the game in the fourth inning on a Jesse Puscheck RBI single.
Delaware will wrap up the Lexington County Tournament Sunday as UD again faces Canisius at 10 a.m.
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
· Nick Liggett led Delaware with two hits in the winning effort.
· UD now leads the all-time series vs. Canisius 4-1.
· Seven Blue Hens tallied at least one hit in Saturday's game.
· Marinaccio only allowed five hits in his college debut.
· Saturday marked Delaware fifth game of the season, while Canisius has already played 10 contests.
