BOSTON -- The University of Delaware women's indoor track & field squad will have 10 student-athletes competing in nine different events when the Blue Hens take part in the annual Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships this weekend at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
Action for Delaware will get underway Saturday afternoon with Delaware's LaToya James- the defending champion - competing in the 60 meter hurdles at 3 p.m. Also competing Saturday for the Hens is Amira Idris in the long jump (3 p.m.), Haley Gorenflo in the pole vault (3 p.m.), Monica Hagenauer in the weight throw (3 p.m.), Latazah Coleman in the 60 meters (3:20 p.m.) and 200 meters (5:20 p.m.), and the team of Breanna Nicholson, Carolyn Darr, Alexandra Carroll, and Tyler Jackson in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Should James advance from the preliminaries, she would compete in the 60 meter hurdles Saturday at 3:50 p.m. Should Coleman advance in the 60 meters, she would compete in the second round at 4 p.m.
Sunday's action will begin with Sarah Hillman competing in the shot put (9:30 a.m.), and Idris in the triple jump (10:30 a.m.). The 60 meter hurdles final is set for 11:55 a.m., the 60 meters semifinal is scheduled for 12:05 p.m., the 200 meter finals will begin at 1:20 p.m., and the 4 x 400 meter relay finals will take place at approximately 3 p.m.
James, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica (Convent of Mercy Academy), became the first-ever UD women's competitor to capture an ECAC individual title last season. She had finished second in the preliminaries but went one better and ran a time of 8.56 to win the championship race. James earned All-East honors for the second straight year after placing second in the hurdles at the 2013 meet.
Hagenauer, a senior from Schnecksville, Pa. (Parkland HS), returns in the weight throw competition after placing 20th a year ago. Delaware also placed 12th in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 2014 and earned an overall 16th place team finish for its second straight Top 20 showing.
