BUFFALO, N.Y. – After a pair of strong performances in the Colonial Athletic Association Diving Championships two weeks ago, Caitlin Stockwell and Kristina Congdon will represent the University of Delaware at the NCAA Zone A Diving Meet beginning Monday at the University of Buffalo.
Brian PayneIn her last competition, Congdon (Yardley, Pa/Pennsbury) tallied a second place finish in the 1-meter event at the CAA Diving Championship.
The junior, who was named CAA Diver of the Week earlier this season, has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet each year she has been at Delaware. Congdon (right) finished 38th in the 3-meter event last season and recorded a 42nd place finish in the 1-meter event.
“I have been lucky enough to qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving meet the past three years and it is my highest accomplishment since I have started diving at Delaware,” said Congdon. “Being able to dive in this meet is a great experience because there are so many amazing divers that I get to watch and dive along with.
"I am very grateful that I will have a teammate traveling with me since we have had such a strong season together.”
Like Congdon, Stockwell (San Jose, Calif./Presentation) also medaled at the CAA Diving Championship. The junior finished in third in the 3-meter competition with a score of 300.4. This
season marks the third time Stockwell (left) has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Meet. Last year, Stockwell finished 44th in the 3-meter event and 50th in the 1-meter competition.
“The upcoming NCAA meet is the highest accomplishment of my collegiate diving career,” said Stockwell. “I have qualified every year since becoming a Blue Hen and relish the opportunity to compete against the top divers from other conferences all over the zone.
"I have been fortunate enough to always be able to travel to this meet with a teammate. Kristina and I have fallen into a routine on and off the pool deck that helps keep us both mentally and physically ready for such a big meet as this.”
The three-day competition will begin Monday with all events taking place at the University of Buffalo's Alumni Arena.
